이번에 공개된 임상시험 사례들은 양사의 연구비 지원으로 진행되었던 것이다. 이 중 하나의 예가 대한남성과학회와 더불어 ‘성건강교육연구회’를 창립, 교육 자료를 개발하고 계간지 ‘건강한 성, 행복한 삶’을 발행한 것이다. 남성 당뇨병 환자들에게서 발기부전 증상이 나타날 확률은 건강한 이들에 비해 3배나 높은 것으로 추정되고 있을 정도. 이상지질혈증을 동반한 발기부전 남성의 발기도를 평가한 결과 레비트라가 발기부전 환자의 삽입 성공률 및 발기유지능력을 향상시켰다는 최초의 전향적인 연구결과가 나왔다. 또한 질 내 삽입 성공률에서도 FP비트라ODT 투여 군은 71.3%, 위약군은 43.9%를 보였고, 발기유지 및 성관계 성공률에서도 레비트라ODT 투여군이 위약군(26%)에 비해 2배 이상 높은 성공률인 62.7%을 나타냈다. 레비트라는 또, 삽입 성공률(sep2)과 발기 지속률(sep3) 역시 위약에 비해 두드러지게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 연구진은 당뇨병 환자 138명에 대한 자료를 분석했는데 그 결과 레비트라는 위약에 비해 통계적으로 유의적인 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 20㎎(평균 10㎎)을 12주 동안 복용했던 당뇨병 환자들의 경우 플라시보 투여群에 비해 통계적으로 유의할만한 수준의 효과를 보았던 것으로 분석됐다. 비급여로 처방을 받는 경우도 존재하고 그 경우 인지도 있는 회사가 환자의 신뢰도로 이어지는 탓이다. 최근 뜨거운 경쟁이 ‘현재진행형’인 발기부전 치료제 시장에서 후발품목인 일라이 릴리/아이코스社의 ‘시알리스'(타달라필)에도 추월당하고 있는 ‘레비트라’에 반격의 발판을 구축해 줄 것이라는 기대감에 불씨를 지필 만한 대목인 셈.

게다가 비뇨기과 전문의들은 당뇨병에 동반되는 발기부전 증상의 경우 치료하기가 가장 어려운 그룹에 속한다는데 입을 모으고 있는 형편이다. 인디펜던트’紙는 “FDA가 이처럼 이례적인(unusual) 행보를 보이고 있는 것은 또 다른 자료제출을 요구할 가능성을 배제할 수 없음을 시사하는 것이며, 이 경우 ‘레비트라’의 미국시장 발매시기가 상당정도 지연될 수 있으리라는 우려가 일부 애널리스트들에 의해 제기되고 있다”고 전했다. 화이자社가 발매 중인 ‘비아그라’의 경우 이미 시장에 데뷔한 후 5년의 시간이 경과한 데다 이 분야의 대명사격 약물로 인식되고 있는 상황이다. 바이엘쉐링제약(바이엘헬스케어)은 최근 스웨덴 스톡홀롬에서 열린 유럽비뇨기학회 (EAU: European Association of Urology)에서 발기부전 치료에 대한 기존의 인식을 바꿀 수 있는 새로운 연구 결과(ENDURANCE)가 발표됐다며 이같이 밝혔다. 를 얻지 못한 발기부전 남성들에게도 레비트라가 효과가 있음을 보여준다고 강조했다. 레비트라는 선호도를 묻는 대부분 항목에서 비아그라에 대해 우위를 보였으며, 효능 입증을 위해 빈번히 이용되는 EF DOMAIN, SEP 등과 같은 척도들에서도 역시 레비트라가 비아그라에 대해 통계학적인 우위를 보인 것으로 나타났다고 한다. 미국 베일러 의대의 앨런 가버 박사와 연구진은 비아그라에 반응하지 않는 중등증 이상의 발기부전증 환자 463명을 대상으로 레비트라와 위약을 대조했다. 또 다른 경쟁제품인 일라이 릴리社와 ICOS社의 시알리스(Cialis)도 금년말 미국 시장에 입성할 것으로 예상된다. 글락소스미스클라인社와 바이엘社는 7일 미국 플로리다州 올랜도에서 열린 제 64차 미국 당뇨협회(ADA) 사이언티픽 세션 학술회의에서 이 같은 임상시험 결과를 발표했다.

이 결과는 지난 13일 마드리드에서 열린 제 18차 유럽비뇨기학회학술대회에서 발표됐다. 이미 발현시간이 가장 빠른 것으로 보고되는 레비트라는 최근 10분 만에 이 제품을 복용한 환자가 발기, 최단시간 기록을 갱신했다는 새로운 연구결과도 발표됐다. 발기부전증 치료제인 레비트라(Levitra)가 비아그라로 효과를 보지 못한 당뇨병 환자에게 효과적이라는 임상 결과가 미국당뇨병학회(ADA)에서 발표됐다. 바이엘과 글락소스미스클라인은 최근 남성 발기 부전 치료를 위한 새로운 경구용 PDE-5 억제제인 “레비트라”(성분명: vardenafil HCI)가 유럽 연합으로부터 판매 승인을 받았다고 밝혔다. 이와 관련, ‘비아그라'(실데나필)를 복용하고도 증상개선에 별다른 도움을 받지 못했던 당뇨병 환자들의 발기부전 증상을 개선하는데 ‘레비트라'(바데나필)가 효과를 발휘할 수 있을 것임이 입증되었다는 요지의 임상시험 결과가 공개되어 비상한 관심을 모으고 있다. 이와 관련, FDA 자문위원회는 양사가 추가로 제출할 임상시험 결과를 검토하기 위해 다음달 29일 회의를 소집할 예정으로 있다. 이를 위해 권세라 마케팅 총괄을 비롯해 39명의 영업팀원들이 노력 중이다. 권세라 마케팅 총괄은 “기존 약에 비해 약효가 빠르고 10mg 단일의 같은 용량에서 효능도 높다”고 자신했다. 레비트라ODT의 권세라 마케팅 총괄은 “확실히 의사들이나 환자들의 관심이 크다는 것이 느껴진다. 권세라 마케팅 총괄은 ” 발기부전체료제들은 각각의 특장점이 있지만 레비트라ODT는 물 없이 먹을 수 있다는 확실한 차별화된 특장점을 지니고 있다. 레비트라ODT는 본사의 ‘애니타임 애니웨어(Any time, Any where)’라는 문구를 ‘굿바이 워터(Good bye water)’로 새로 바꾸고, 레비트라복용법 환자들을 대상으로 한 리서치를 통해 많은 준비를 하고 나온 제품이다. ‘굿바이 워터(Good bye water)’라는 귀에 쏙 들어오는 슬로건을 걸고 아시아에서는 처음으로 한국에 출시된 레비트라ODT.
